We have postponed the mock wedding until next Wednesday.
Raema's design has been used as the art work on our invitations.
It features a pair of love struck penguins!

Our learning 23.02.12
We started our time unit this week. Look out for progression charts in your Learning Link book on Monday. This will tell you what your next step in learning time is.
We had a couple of different teachers in the class last week, it was nice to get some very positive feedback about the class from them, both saying what a lovely class you are!

Above we have some Pioneer Cat art work; we have designed a new cover for the book, based on the original. They look fantastic, with more to follow.
We have another week on the trail - we hope to get to Oregon before winter but we have some tricky travel and fate cards to get through before that happens!

Study ladder
We are studying TIME and TIMES TABLES at the moment in class. With this in mind
I have set some new activities online on Study Ladder. I have given the children their log in
details again for ease of access.
This should be a way of practising skills in a fun and progressive way.
I am encouraging the children to wear a watch -i f they have one.
Both these topics are something that can be practised at home
in spare moments- asking your child to tell you the time regularly , testing
their tables as you drive to Kirkwall, it's all about making the
most of peedie moments!

Our Learning 15.02.13
We have been having a busy week.
We had rugby training on Monday afternoon in the hall. Next week
we may go outside to train so make sure that you have your kit.
We had a business meeting with the whole school on Tuesday afternoon.
We met together to discuss playtime and in school rules and behaviour.
We have lots of ideas for a new set of playground rules.
We are half way along the trail! Yipee !! To celebrate we learned a new song: Oh Susannah.
Here is a link to the song on Youtube:

We now have our table 'rockets' on the class wall, where we can collect stickers for tables we have learnt. Here is one of them:
Today we made bread and butter. The pioneers would have found it much harder
to make bread than we did with yeast and a mini oven! We made our own butter by
shaking double cream in a jar, it tasted lovely with the warm bread.

Our Learning Week ending 1st Feb
We have had a busy week, with the added bonus of a day off for pupils!
Maths:
This week p4/5 have been multiplying tens and units and have made lots
of progress. P3 have been learning the x3 table.
Here are some websites you might like to try to help you learn your tables.
As someone once said ' Not knowing your tables is like trying to run before
you can walk in maths'.

Pledge Tree:
This week we finally got our eco-pledges made. Each child signed
their leaf before placing it on the tree and sharing their pledge with the
others.
Here is E, pledging to buy local produce.
Our eco-pledge tree
.
Writing:
We wrote list poems this week, firstly one called 'Thanksgiving'
in which we wrote about all the things we were thankful for. Ideas
that came up were: Mum, Dad, football, chocolate, friends etc;
quite a mixture!
On the Trail:
On the Trail this week we had children getting lost and
a baby being born- named Rosie Hixon! It was a shame that some of us didn't
take a risk and try and cross the Ayers natural bridge as we
could have come upon some delicious berries which we could
have feasted upon! Oh dear, we suppose that's how it goes sometimes!
Reading/ Science:
As some of the class are doing a book study of 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark'
we had RSPB field teacher Lindsey Taylor come into school to do a session about
owl pellets. It was fascinating to dissect the regurgitated pellets and discover the bones and
fur of small mammals! We also got to make a clay owl, great fun!
