Our learning 30th November 2012

This week in class we started our new maths topic 'Data handling'. We practised using tally marks to record and collect information. We collected information about the favourite flavour of icecream in the class - toffee was the winner. Then we drew some graphs to show this.

In project we prepared for a science investigation to see which materials would be biodegradable. This was a 'mini landfill' experiment. This week we will put the materials, such as an apple core into compost and leave them 'til the end of term before checking to see if they have rotted any.
We also looked at a planet friendly packed lunch for our imaginary class family member Garry.
We chose items that would have been bought locally and used little packaging. Most folk thought it was best to use reusable tubs.

We listened the the story of Grey Friar's Bobby and researched some amazing facts about Scotland for the assembly on St Andrews day.
After the assembly we had a snack of shortbread and sparkling water and paired up with a younger child to read to them to celebrate 'Book Week Scotland' .

Below are some photos of the St Andrews day celebration and reading together.

Happy birthday R! Hope you enjoyed the bagpipes playing happy birthday! :-)
